Posted on the Lights & Sirens blog at 8:11 a.m. Friday Tacoma police on Friday were investigating two unrelated shootings Thursday that left two men wounded.
The first was a drive-by attack in the 2100 block of South L Street about 7:30 p.m. A man was shot in the hand by someone firing from a black four-door car, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.
The wounded man walked into a local hospital and reported the shooting.
The second shooting was reported just after 9:30 p.m.
Members of two rival gangs were exchanging words in the 3500 block of Portland Avenue when at some point the talk turned to gunfire, police said.
One of the men in the argument was shot in the forearm and in the leg, Fulghum said. He was taken to Madigan Army Medical Center for treatment.
A police dog searched for suspects but found no one, Fulghum said.
Shortly after the first shooting, members of the police gang unit working in the South End stopped a car similar to the gunman's vehicle.
Two of the four men in it were detained and two ran away, Fulghum said. An officer chased down one of them, Fulghum said. Officers found a stolen gun in the car.
The three men, all convicted felons, were arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm. Police were continuing to investigate the shooting and whether the three arrested men were involved.
- Incident Type: Assault (or Homicide)
- Attributes: Western Washington, Unspecified gun type, Drive-by
