Ten Things You Can Do About Firearm Violence

Here are ten things you can do to help prevent firearm violence in our communities:

  1. Learn the facts about firearms and firearms violence.
  2. Become an active member of Washington CeaseFire, volunteer, and attend Washington CeaseFire events.
  3. Join the Washington CeaseFire email list and pass on our regular communications to ten friends.
  4. Contact your PTA/PTSA about a Washington CeaseFire representative making a presentation at your school.
  5. Ask if there is a firearm in the homes where your children play before they go play with their friends.
  6. If you or someone you know has a firearm make sure it is safely stored unloaded and locked up with the ammunition in a separate place (or loaded in a gun safe).
  7. Educate friends and family about the risks and responsibilities of firearm ownership.
  8. Ask those running for office for their official views on firearm violence prevention.
  9. Support proposed common-sense firearm legislation by contacting your elected officials and attending legislative hearings.
  10. Write letters to the editors in local newspapers or call-in on talk radio shows in support of common-sense firearm policies.
