Washington CeaseFire is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing gun violence in Washington state through education, research, and advocacy. CeaseFire was formed in 1983 by a group of citizens who had been directly affected by gun violence and has grown to more than 6,000 members across the state.

September Brings Another Tragedy and Dialogue

Dear supporter of Washington CeaseFire,

Summer is fading, the election is in full swing, and we've experienced yet another mass tragedy here in Washington State.  We must do more to protect our communities -- and we can -- gun violence is preventable. 

In the District of Columbia v. Heller, the Supreme Court may have held that there is an individual right to own a firearm, but it also gave us a lot of ground to continue advocating for what is most important to us: common-sense gun laws.

Today, on the same day most children in Western Washington headed out for their first day of school, the Seattle P-I ran a story detailing the ease with which our young people can gain access to firearms.  How is it possible that we have arrived at a point at which our young people find it easier to buy a firearm than a car?
